We Are T'ikas Warmi | Our Products | Orders
Who are we? We are T’ikas Warmi, a group of underemployed and unemployed women who live in vulnerable situations in the Cochabamba area of Bolivia. We decided to do something about our situation by working to become economically independent. We join our vision of sustainable idealism to the recycling movement, creating cards and bookmarks from recycled papers and flowers from the Cochabamba valley.
Our program began at the Franciscan Social Center in Cochabamba to strengthen women, a group especially vulnerable to physical and psychological abuse. Working through the charisms of love and service, the Franciscans have also identified these women as concerned guardians of the environment, demonstrating in their art the wise use of its resources.
The Franciscan Social Center provides T’ikas Warmi with studio space and interest-free start-up capital. It also returns all profits to T’ikas Warmi members in proportion to the number of their works sold. Formed in June of 2010, T’ikas Warmi includes 12 members in production and the same number of socially disadvantaged adolescents and young adults in process of reinsertion into their society's labor force.
T’ikas Warmi members produce their wares mainly in their homes, gathering flowers and plants to construct their artistic visions of sustainable idealism. Working from their homes, they balance their roles as mothers, spouses and workers.
